Happy Birthday Jess--February 13

Today is Jessica Cameron Ward's birthday.  She is from Laguna Hills, California and majoring in English with an editing minor. She served in the New York Rochester Mission from February 2009-August 2010 and worked chiefly at the Hill Cumorah Historical Sites. She loves traveling and hopes to go to Prague soon, but London is her favorite. She plays the piano and the cello, and enjoys black and white movies. Right now she works at the MTC and as a writing tutor. She can't wink.  Right now the biggest part of her life plan is marrying David Durham Larsen.

How did she meet David? When they were both eighteen-years-old they lived in Helaman Halls.  He noticed Jess the first day while she played the piano.  It took her a little bit longer to notice him.  The first time they ever hung out was on a snowboarding trip.  She choked on root beer while laughing and passed out.  He revived her.  (Isn't that romantic?)  She then threw up...all over him!  After that they were friends.  (Best story ever!)

They admitted they liked each other right before he left on his mission to Germany and wrote monthly while he was gone.  Three months before he came home she left on a mission and they continued to write--but not mushy-gushy.  Through those letters she learned what was important to him and what made him laugh.

When they were finally both in the States and both off their missions, they literally met at the airport, and within two days they were dating. Within two months, they knew they wanted to get married.

Actual engagement story:  He surprised her by flying out to CA New Year's Day from Texas and meeting her on the beach where they'd first kissed four years ago--he went down on knee, asked Jess to marry him, and she said yes.

They're getting married May 21, 2011 in the Newport Beach, CA temple.

Jess shares her advice for those of us that are single. "There is no formula. Go out there, make friends, DATE (it can be fun!), and trust that everything works out. And if your life plan changes drastically (like, say, you suddenly feel you should go on a mission or any number of major life changes) still trust that everything works out. I had a lot of different experiences before David and I finally "worked out"--some were fun, some not so much, but I think they make me a more rounded, complete person and those experiences have blessed our relationship."

 Congratulations and Happy Birthday Jess.
